10 Things to Expect in San Diego

The more time we spend in San Diego, the more I am learning about the way things are around here.  To sum it up, it is completely different than Ohio, and it just might be safe to say that it’s different than anywhere else in the US too.  In the best ways possible though!  California knows what’s up, and I think other cities should take a page out of San Diego’s book (I’m talking about the acai bowls and U-turns….you’ll see what I mean).  Here are my observations after living here for several weeks:

*  The weather really is this nice every day.  Sunny and 75 is the way things are and no else seems to feel the need to exclaim “It’s so nice out!!” every five seconds.  Just me.

*  If there is an occasional cloudy day, San Diegans get very upset about it and might be having the worst day of their lives.  I’d hate to see them in Yougstown, OH.

*  Everyone has a dog.  And the dogs go everywhere with their humans.  Coffee shops and stores even have doggie treats and water bowls on hand for them!

*  California loves acai bowls, possibly the most delicious concoction ever invented.  I’m eating one as I write this.

*  U-TURNS ARE A LEGAL AND COMMON DRIVING PRACTICE.  I am still not used to this and practically have a heart attack every time I see cars spinning around into the lane next to me.

*  San Diegans just might live off of tacos, and all the variations of them.

*  Ridiculous sunsets happen every evening, and it seems that eventually people here get used to them without feeling the need to sit and watch them until the last colors fade away.

*  “Organic” is one of Cali’s favorite words to describe things.

*  Skateboards, rollerblades, and bicycles are probably more common transportation methods than a car.

*  Formal attire does not exist.  Yoga pants, t-shirts, and flip-flops are the norm, and I am ok with that.
